OVARIAN CYST

Ovarian Cyst and Causes

The most common causes of ovarian cysts are hormonal imbalance, pregnancy,

endometriosis, and pelvic infections. Ovarian cysts are fluid sacs that form on the surface of the ovary.

Every woman has two ovaries, one on each side of her uterus. The cyst tends to form when the ovaries

produce too much estrogen hormone. In some cases, the cyst may cause the ovary to twist, blocking

blood supply and causing severe pain, bleeding. An ovarian cyst can be a causal factor of infertility

among women, the larger cyst that grows requires an operation or use of strong herbs to make it go, but

 sometimes it goes itself.

Ovarian cyst symptoms and pain

Ovarian cysts do not always cause symptoms. If you have a large pelvis or abdomen,

you may experience dull or sharp pain on one side.

Bloating and a heaviness in your lower abdomen are also possible.

If the cyst ruptures, you will feel a sharp pain.

Types of Ovarian Cyst

1) Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS): is a condition in which your ovaries develop a large

number of small, harmless cysts. Cysts are small egg follicles caused by hormonal imbalances that

do not develop into ovulation.

2) Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium, which normally lines the inside of a

woman's uterus, grows outside of it. Endometrial tissue wrapping around your ovaries, preventing

your eggs from releasing, is one way it can affect fertility. Also, The tissue may obstruct sperm

passage up your fallopian tubes. It can also prevent a fertilized egg from moving down your tubes and

into your uterus, thereby preventing fertilization.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cyst

An ovarian cyst usually causes symptoms only if it splits (ruptures), is very large, or blocks the blood

supply to the ovaries.

1) Pelvic pain – in these cases, it can range from a dull, heavy sensation to a sudden, severe, and sharp pain.

2) Ache while having sex

3) Difficulty emptying your bowels.

4) Constant need to pee

5) Heavy periods, irregular periods, or periods that are lighter than usual

4) Stomach bloating and swelling

5) Feeling extremely satiated after only a small amount of food

6) Difficulty conceiving – although ovarian cysts have no effect on fertility in most cases

Detection of ovarian cyst

1) Physical examination of the body: A cyst may be discovered during a pelvic exam. 2) Ultrasound: The location, size, and composition of ovarian cysts can be determined using

ultrasound. 3) Blood tests are carried out: Your doctor may order CA-125 testing in addition to other

diagnostic tests if you are past menopause or have an increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Ruptured Cyst

A ruptured cyst can result in excruciating pain and internal bleeding. The larger the cyst, the greater the risk of rupture. Vigorous pelvic activity, such as vaginal intercourse, raises the risk as well and a brownish vaginal discharge may occur

Ovarian Cyst Surgery or Removal

A noncancerous cyst that is causing symptoms can be surgically removed (cystectomy), leaving the ovary intact. In some cases, when cancer is discovered, the entire ovary or both ovaries are removed.
